The story of the band.
This story starts like many others, over drinks at a bar - The Bends, to be exact. A place where people of like mind and like musical tastes eventually find each other.
It’s where Scott Robinson and Joseph Patner discussed a mutual interest and fascination with classic NYC punk like the Ramones, as well as Boston bands like Buffalo Tom and Dinosaur Jr. Scotty, it turns out, had a background in jazz drumming, including a trip to Trinidad to play steel drums. He was a Boston indie rock vet, most notably as drummer for recording and touring artists Gatsby, a Boston mainstay.
As fate would have it, Joseph had played bass in the now disbanded Broken Taillight, a St Pete band with echoes of 90s rock, as well as having survived the Ybor cover band days.
Conversations naturally turned to seeing where this rhythm section could go. And that’s how things stayed for two years - in the realm of conversation. The quest to create a band remained just that: casual talk when running into each other at local establishments.
Sometimes, instead of looking around town, you just need to look across the table. The Thanksgiving table, to be exact. At Thanksgiving in 2023, Joseph was having dinner with some extended ish family, when Eli Goodman and Joseph realized they not only shared family, they also shared a love for garage and indie rock. Death Cab for Cutie, Screaming Females. Fate struck again when it turned out Eli, a singer and guitarist, had recorded with Brooklyn indie pop darlings the Gem He also had a suitcase full of song ideas.
Within a couple of weeks and dozens of emails, Eli, Scotty and Joseph had solidified their interests and plans. Within a few more weeks sounds could be heard from the back of Groovehaven studios. Coincidence turned a kind eye again when it was collectively learned all 3 members had ties to New Jersey. Hence - the name.
The lads have been playing shows all around the St. Petersburg area, and are due to record a debut album in 2025. Stay tuned.
